Bulldogs Top Masco, 3-1

As schools began their holiday vacations, Canton welcomed Masconomet to the Ice House on Saturday for a showdown of two of the top teams in the state. Heading into this game, the Bulldogs had the expectation that this was going to be one of the biggest games of their season. Masconomet came into the game with a perfect 2-0 record that was backed up by excellent goaltending. In the first period the Bulldogs drew first blood after John Hagan flung a shot from the corner on net and Chris Lavoie was there to put the rebound top shelf. With five minutes remaining in the first period, Shane Marshall won an offensive zone puck battle and took two Masconomet defenders out of the play for Tommy Ghostlaw to find the puck and feed a pass to wide open Timmy Kelleher to take a 2-0 lead. The Bulldogs peppered the opposing netminder putting a total of 37 shots on net over the course of the game. In the 2nd period the Bulldogs shut the door on their opponent as Hagan won a faceoff cleanly to himself and then at the red line headmanned it to teammate Chris Lavoie for his 6th goal of the season. Lavoie, a senior, is off to his best start in a Canton Bulldog varsity sweater. Joe Cammarata was lights out all night and despite giving up a late third period goal it was one of his best efforts as a high school goaltender. The Bulldogs prevailed in the game because of their strong position in the defensive zone play and their precision of getting pucks and bodies to the front of the net. Canton won a huge game 3-1 and improved to 2-0-1 on the season.
