Bulldogs top Franklin to Begin Season

Saturday night, the Bulldogs traveled to Franklin to take on the Panthers to kick off the 2019-2020 season. When these teams face off it is always a very hard hitting and fast paced game.  Last year the teams had two very hard fought battles both ending with the Bulldogs on top. The Panthers showed early pressure in the offensive zone which put senior goalie Joe Cammarata to work very early into the contest.  Despite many offensive chances for Franklin early in the game, the Bulldogs found the back of the net first as Chris Lavoie picked up right where he left off last season by burying one back post in the slot. At the end of the first period the Bulldogs led 1-0.

Early in the second period the Panthers caught the Bulldogs defense flat footed and cashed in on a 2 on 1 opportunity. Moments later it was once again Lavoie who picked up his second tally of the contest breaking the tie on a snapshot from the hash marks. Franklin kept taking advantage of Canton's defensive struggles and rallied to tie the game early in the third period.  Like many high school hockey games this one was filled with many penalties from both sides. Midway through the third period the Bulldogs lit the lamp for a third time, this time on the powerplay, as Shane Marshall got his first goal of the season from Declan Pfeffer and Ronan O’Mahony. It was desperation mode for Franklin in the final five minutes, but Cammarata came up with multiple stops to hold off the Panthers and win the first start of

his career.  The Bulldogs got the job done in their season opener to improve to 1-0 on the season.
